I Tested Self Tanners So You Don't Have To
Everyone dreams of summer and going to the beach with friends to get that golden glow. Having sunkissed skin makes many people feel more confident, so why shouldn't you have it all year long? Self-tanners have been around for years and i'm sure some people have had some encounters when your “tan” soon turns out to be orange. Even myself, love to be tan and dont feel as confident in my paler skin. So of course I did what anyone would do… I tested out tons of different self-tanner brands. I am going to tell you all the tips and tricks as well as what brands you should steer clear of.
First off, preparing to tan. Always make sure you exfoliated and applied a generous amount of lotion a few hours prior to ensure no dead skin is around to create a patchy and uneven surface
Secondly, make sure you have a good applicator. Using your hands is an effective way but can result in a streaky pattern and will make your palms way darker than you bargained for. Sephora and ulta has great and reasonably priced applicator mitts that work perfectly. Just remember to wash the mitt off after each use for a perfect application next time.
Lastly, make sure you have a mirror to see all your angles or a friend is around to help apply the tan to tricky areas. Keep in mind that all lighting shows the tan different, so natural lighting is more beneficial.
Don't be like Ross and forget to turn to tan everything
Even though there are cheaper alternatives, I try not to skimp when it comes to my skincare and looking nice. There are brands such as Jergens that are very affordable but will 9/10 leave you looking orange or streaky. Listed below are my top favorite brands that I love to use, although they are a bit pricey, the outcome is well worth the investment!
My Top 5 Favorite Brands
If you do not feel like you have the ability to tan yourself well, I have always had great experiences of a spray tan. To ensure that your spray tan will perfect, read reviews of tanning salons in your location. Check to see what color tones they offer and what kind of solution it is. If you are going for an event, I highly recommend doing a trial tan a few weeks before hand to ensure you will look beautifully sun kissed the day of.
